Electronic Drum

An electronic drum generates percussive sounds through the use of a waveform generator or synthesizer, or through the use of prerecorded samples instead of acoustic sound. There are many different types and configurations for these instruments from plastic boxes with an array of buttons to sets that look just like a regular acoustic drum set but with a computer module to control the sound.

An electronic drum can play a much wider variety of sounds than a regular one because it is using synthesized or sampled music. The set or box can be made to sound like a vintage drum set or completely electronic and foreign. There is a great deal of modern music that is created using synthesized electronic drumming modules.

Today’s electronic drum has high quality digital sound that can either be modeled right there in the processor or trigger a pre-recorded sample, on drum set models they can sense where the head was hit giving the drummer more control of the sound, multiple drums can be triggered at once, realistic high hats, multiple digital outputs so no microphone is needed for recording or amplifying, and often MIDI control for adding or controlling different MIDI instruments.
